Planning to take the PSAT in 2019? Designed primarily to be a "practice" SAT, the PSAT exam is an abridged version of its SAT counterpart.
The PSAT is administered in Georgia in mid-October of junior year. However, many sophomores (and some freshmen) may also take as a practice.
Scores are an excellent way to gauge how to prep for the SAT exam. And, top scorers of the PSAT can qualify for lucrative scholarship awards.
Contact BFF Tutoring for assistance on how to both prep for the PSAT and interpret the scores (available in mid-December)
ACT EXAM
The SAT exam requires students to think analytically in reading, writing and math and to demonstrate an ability to interpret evidence to solve problems.
Questions are designed to mirror the problem-solving and modeling students will do in college math, science, and social science courses and future jobs.
Heavily focused on algebra, many math questions will require several steps to solve. Compared to the ACT, the math topics, although narrower in scope, are at a higher level and require a deeper comprehension.
Recently released ACT Official Practice tests demonstrate that tests from last last 3 years feature a more challenging math and science section.
The math updates include broader, more difficult content, with a focus on student's ability to think and not just input on the calculator.
The multiple-choice questions (60 questions in 60 minutes) require students to use reasoning skills to solve practical problems in math. With a heavier lean on geometry (versus the SAT), students must know basic formulas (not provided) and computational skills.
